Tony Romo has been looked at as a sports hero. He has been profiled as a top NFL quarterback, a pop culture icon and an all-around perfect guy. He has recently recieved a lot of praise, mainly because he suffered a cracked rib and a punctured lung during a game against the 49ers. He fought back and threw a pass to seal the win in overtime. He was given a lot of credit for returning to the game with these injuries. This last week, it seemed like the hot topic was Tony Romo's injury update.
I know playing with an injury is difficult and I could only imagine how tough it was for him to play an NFL game with the injuries. With this being said, I believe Tony Romo is overrated and inconsistent. While I would agree that Romo is a great quarterback, he is not an elite QB because of these inconsistencies. Sports analysts and reporters put Tony Romo on this pedestal like he is some kind of god. He has done nothing yet to be in the NFL's elite class of QB's. When I think of elite QB's I think of Brady, Brees, Roesthlisberger and Rodgers. Besides winning playoff games, these QB's all have won atleast 1 Super Bowl.
I am not saying that Romo is bad, but he is gaining to much credit. It all started in the playoff game against the Seahawks in 2007. He botched the FG hold that would have won the Cowboys the game. Last season Romo was injured by the Giants where he did not return for the rest of the season. After beating the 49ers and Redskins with a cracked rib, Romo choked once again.
The Cowboys were up big against the 3-0 Lions. 20-3 at halftime to be exact. With 2 interceptions which were both returned for a TD in the 3rd Qtr. the Lions began their comeback. The Lions came back within 6 after a Calvin Johnson TD. With just over 4 minutes left in the game, Romo recklessly floats a pass up which is also picked off. The Lions went on to score another Calvin Johnson TD which untimately won the game.
21 pts were scored off of the Romo interception's. Why can't people see past all of his personal accomplishments and talk about the "real" Tony Romo. The Romo that finds a way to blow the game. He blows games like this all the time and still receives praise like he is Tom Brady. As a Giants fan its easy to hate on Romo, but I understand he is a good QB. He is better than Eli Manning. But then again Eli found a way to win a championship. Romo plays for "America's Team." Jerry Jones (Owner of Cowboys) has provided the team with great players. Romo has no excuse. It falls on him. If he is such a great QB why has he found it so hard to carry his team past the 1st round of the playoffs?
What do you think? Is Tony Romo Overrated or Underrated?
